Default MoJo's for Bluefin - worth trying in summer ?

Unless you been hibernating last few weeks - sure you've heard of the Bluefin being caught off Va. Beach by guys trolling for Rockfish.

Every winter there is a story or two of some one getting a 3/0 reel spooled but this winter many Bluefin were landed by the Rockfish trollers.

Some used regular gear but many upped the odds by using 50 or 80 lb gear.

Crazy thing was - most Bluefins were caught on MoJo's - 10-28 oz parachute jigs with 9-12 inch rubber shads.

I'm really thinking these goofy looking lures might work in summer on the lumps in 20-30 fathoms.

Where do you fish out of? I have honstly thought of doing the same thing. Or even using a three way swivel and putting a hoo or something in tandem with it, like instead of using a planer. Not to mention you probably wouldn't risk spooking fish as much as you would with a planer. It has me very curious.

Water clarity would b my only thought plus the speed diff although I know guys who will troll 2kts w/big lead who get em when they're tight to the bottom. Also I personally don't run braid on my offshore stuff and getting them deep on 50+lb mono is gonna b tuff. My guess is when they're biting they'll eat anything...otherwise???

I think Terp is right about water clarity. Our inshore waters are pretty funky. The other thing is where the BFT have been caught inshore off VA, the schools of bunker have been very thick. So thick it fills the screen of your FF completely. Normally offshore the fish see your boat wake, see your spread, may even follow you for a while before deciding to eat. I don't think they are doing this inshore. I think they are just sitting down at the bunker buffet table and stuffing themselves then they see your mojo pop out in front of their nose and they decide to eat that too.

But I'm always game to drag something new if what you have out is not working. So give it a try, might work.

I have a couple of 4 oz islanders that work for blue fin. I run one on a planer to get down at the bottom. I was looking at a blue white mojo at a fishing show. Thinking, hey, this may work. I have not worked out the ballyhoo on the mojo yet
