I can say that it is FAR better than it ever was. GLOBALSTAR says that they are at 90% coverage since they started launching replacemnt satellites. They just launched four more and the last launch is scheduled to take place this spring to bring them to 100% coverage.
Here is a link so you can see exactly what the coverage is: http://calltimes.globalstar.com/
Use the map so select your location and it will list coverage times. You will see there are gaps. As the rest of the satellites come on line this spring, these gaps will all go away.
Are both units brand new? Do they have a warranty? Is the less expensive unit fully functional offshore?
Thanks,
Mike
Would love the real story on current sat service. I have both an Iridium and a global star. Don't have either of them currntly activated. I bought the Iridium a couple years ago when the Global star became useless. If they are up again, I would love to sell one of the phones. Mike, if you help figure it out, I'll glady make a deal on one of them.
Here is a link to more information about the phones we are offering.

And here is some information about the service
I have several Block Island comercial and charter offshore captains that used these phones extensively all of last year. Their feedback on the phones is what convinced me to work out a deal to offer these units. As Globalstar launched the new birds later last year, service was nearly 100%. With the next launch of more birds this spring I think they will acheive 100% coverage. Also note that these birds are the latest 2nd generation LEO's that are expected to last 15 years. They are in a very good position.
Mike,
Both units are ready for offshore use. Each comes with a Pelican case. The "Extreme" has the phone mounted in a 1450 Pelican case and includes an external antenna, speaker phone for hands free operation and CAN ALSO be removed from the dock and you can just use the flip up antenna.
This sounds almost too good to be true. I am in if it stays $40 a month after the first year but I question if it's a bait & switch like Cable TV where after the first year it goes way up???? I will call Globalstar my self to find out just that. $40 a year with pretty good coverage is a price point most every one could justify concidering how much we already spend playing this game vs the direct benifits of both safety & convience.
I just got back last night and I'm already planning the next adventure.![]()
Only the truly ate up understand the maddness.
Bill.
The fine print states that after a year the $40 monthly fee goes to the next lowest rate, whatever that means. All-in-all, a good deal if that $40 stays put for a while.
Last year the rate was $20 but there was large gaps in coverage. Those gaps have closed and if you get service now it will be $40 for the next year. I am sure it is going to go up, not down. I don't know of any service that has gotten cheaper with time. If you need a SAT Phone, this is a great deal and the service this year is going to be cheap. Next year it will probably be more.... and so will the phones.
