    Default Boats

I just recently sold my 23ft Robalo and I am looking to buy another boat. I am sorta stuck on which boat to get. I'am looking at a 2003 26ft regulator with 2 Yamaha 225's on it and a 35 ft markley with a 300hp cummins in it. Both boats are about the same price. I only went offshore 3 times last year but I really liked it. If I get the markley it would be docked in Onancock and probably won't make to many trips offshore . Last year and the beginning of this year I fished the bay probably 40 times either rockfishing, drum, cobia,Spanish mackerel and trout. Although I could still do this type of fishing in the regulator but not as comfortable. The regulator has curtains with wings but no back to the covers.the markley I could run small charter trips and would be a good write off. But then I would have to pay a slip fee.the regulator will be trailered most of the time . What boat would you get if you were me?

    Default my choice

layout and ride are formost for me. i just bought my boat a year ago. it is a 28 footer with twin full inboards and a tuna door, full enclosure, heated cabin(wife was sold on that), and a hull that can cut water. only improvement would be more fuel efficient me personally i would go with the diesel-cost, cost, cost!! burn less go more!!!! but also would have to take into consideration layout and and ride before purchase- now as far as offshore if you leave it in the water(comparing both) the diesel would burn less making the long trip to the fish. a center console wouldnt be the best for seat sales either. me personally- i would have to see and ride before giving an honest yea or neh. good luck and hope to see pictures of the new ride!!!! p.s. i trailer my 28 whereever i want to go and i understand the benefits

Is the true world a catamaran ? What kind of 28footer do you have? I would have to put a bigger fuel tank in the markley if I wanted to take it offshore. The markley is more of a bay boat it cruises around 18kts.

Heck with buying a boat just be a good HO!! No headaches from the bills, no wife b1tching about it and on and on. All kidding aside, only you should decide what is going to make you happy. I have a Fountain and to me I like the fact that I can get back from the Norf Canyon in less then 2 hours and I don't mind a little more beating, There are 100 other guys on here that will tell you just the opposite they like a luxury boat. You are paying for it so pick what you like. Other people can advise you about features on a specific boat i.e handles well on a beam sea or is hard to control in a head sea. My primary goal was a boat that will get me there fast, could be trailered easily(OI or HI) and capable of offshore fishing. I liked the cuddy so if I take a wave over the bow I don't get soaked and the boat isn't filled with water(nice to have a windshield and be dry in the cold striper season). Good luck with your decision. Martin

Depends. If you are after speed, then go with the regulator. If comfort and efficiency are more of a priority for you and your passengers, then maybe the Markley.

Prepare for everyone telling you that you should get the brand of boat they have.

By the way, Southport is the way to go.
