    Default Shad dart making

Recently i have started making shad darts due to not being able to find the proper size and colori want in the local tackle shops and when i do they are nearly a buck a pc, then almost scared to toss the lttle feller arond the brush when perch fishing, i don't know how many of u target white perch wit shad darts and tiny minnows but when the bite is on u run thru shad darts rather they eat the hair off or loose in the snags....

Any way my question is how to u tip them..? i use pro tech powder paint for base layer but when i try and tip with the powder paint it is rough looking sure it will catch fish just fine but i am just not happy with it...

i tried powder paint for the base and vinyle for the tiping but for some reason the vinyl paint just does not get hard , it isn't tacky but i am able to peal it of with my finger nail very easy like it just isn't sticking to the dart...

any ideas ..? do any of u guys or gals mess with painting lures?

If the vinyl is peeling off try to scuff up the surface with a piece of fine grit sandpaper before applying it. Just an idea but it might work.

If using the powder paint, tip them with powder paint. You should have the dart hot enough, or carefully reheat them. Bake for 15 minutes at about 350. A cheap old toaster oven works well for this, and won't have you scraping stuff out of your oven-found out the hard way.

I paint all of my darts with vinyl. One coat of white, followed by a color coat and then a tip color.

Be sure to be in a well ventilated area, both when painting with vinyl and pouring the lead.

I use a pipe cleaner around the hook instead of hair.

Tip with red vinyl plaint, then use a vinyl sealer after your done red tipping.
The sealer after it cures will hold it in place
