Was wondering if anyone has ever tryed any artificials for tog.I know up north they use sandworms and the usual crabs.Gulp makes sandworms and crab and sand flea baits.Anyone has ever tryed gulp or anything else for togs.
no, but i'm going to next trip .....
dale, i think if you were to really get on a good quick bite, soon as you hit the bottom they are whacking your bait you might slip an artificial to them that would get a hit. But a lot of time they seem to key on a certain type bait when they are hitting like that and they will whack a fiddler lets say and drop a clam down and it will go untouched. Try it if you like but i think it would be a waste of time, i dont think he would swim very far or out of his hidey hole to check it out.....but i may be wrong.
I've seen one caught on a small storm bait pearl\yellow striper fishing at the 3rd.
They will take a gulp. I've caught a few bouncing gulp around the wrecks after we have our limit. I don't think i would leave the dock with only gulp and call it a tog trip.
I agree with Lance on this. Yes, the togs will bite on gulp. I too have had this experience at the tri wrecks before after I ran out of regular bait. The togs were already in a feeding frenzy so that may have had a factor in why they worked. I would personally put more effort into more proven measures such as a blue crab or clam before using the artificial.....and have them aboard for a just in case situation.....tight lines..
