Default Do you think this will be a good year for the flats?

I'm hoping this year will be much better than last year. It was so muddy last year it was really tough fishing. It seemed as soon as it started to clear a bit we got another storm. I just hope we don't get that biblical snow storm in March just in time to screw things up.

Water temps will be good. Other than that no one knows. That removes one variable necessary for them to bite lures. As for the water coming down the Susky and the wind stirring things up, lets just hope for the best.

    From the NWS:

SNOW PACK CONDITIONS - BELOW NORMAL. THERE WAS NO HYDROLOGICALLY SIGNIFICANT SNOW COVER IN THESUSQUEHANNA OR DELAWARE BASINS.This seems to be another favorable factor.

I hope it is, this warmer winter with less snow north of us could mean warmer water and less muddy / cold water. I'm keeping my fingers crossed.

Don't forget with the good comes the bad. With a warmer drier winter/spring the water levels will be down. Last year we (I) worried that the huge amount of water would disturb the spawn. Ele and I had a great conversation last year about it and I thankfully was wrong. The YOY was one of the best in recent years. I am hoping for a great Flats season and YOY results but only time will tell. Here's to hoping!

Same here JP. 2 yrs ago it seemed perfect and it was dismal (hate to sound negative). Theres definately less fish overall. Maybe since they cant net every darn herring in the upper bay for bait it'll will be better than the last few years, Im afraid it may take a couple yrs to bounce back from that.

With the water being so warm, and the lack of snowfall up north so far this winter, one prediction might be an early spawn and early exit.

I like all of you have our everthing crossed. So far its ideal. I can live with the shallow, the mud and high water are another story. We need a lure year since herring are off the table. Im hoping for a good striper spring, a good shad run and a good crab year. Dont know about you guys but I really need it.
