Default Need Advice On Small Boat

I need some advise on a small boat to use inside lynnhaven and maybe as far as the first
island on a really calm day....I'm looking for something with either a side or center console
that would take about a 25hp give or take....I'm 65 so the higher the sides the better...
I'm looking for an older boat that I can repower with a four stroke....also need a trailer to go
    with it...

So whats a good size and brand and does anyone have one for sale?

I already have a 18ft Kencraft CC with full curtains and everything else but even with
a yammie 115 2 stroke the mileage isn't the best in the world....

    no tillers please

    Thanks for the help

just sayin' .... I wouldn't go to the 1st island with a boat that rated for 25hp, wind comes up to quick to take that kind of risk.
How about a skiff boat for Lynnhaven ? http://www.tidalfish.com/classifieds...tal-skiff.html
Your Ken Craft sounds perfect for the 1st island

I can not say about a specific boat for sale. But I have a 16 foot bow rider with a 50 HP merc. It is reasonably inexpensive to run maybe 7 miles to the gallon. My boat is a semi-V with the area under the floor completely filled with closed cell foam.

What I did to make it more seaworthy is to spend $150 and have a local canvas shop make me a bow cover. It is snap on and I put it on when I am taking the boat out into open water like across he bay or out of Rudee. I have taken green water over the bow that came over the windshield and got be soaked but everything was still OK.

I would avoid a flat bottom boat for areas outside of Lynhaven.

Yes I pick my days. Yes the days that I have taken water over the bow was either me being foolish and drifting out to far off of Sandbridge or not paying enough attention when some idiot in a 35 foot boat came screaming past. But with prudence I feel comfortable running from Back River to Plantation light or Smith Island.

I have a J16 Carolina skiff with a 25 hp Yamaha and it would be perfect for what you want to do!

The Maycraft 1700 skiff is a good value. Basically what you described with a v hull and a little bit of flare, doesn't draw much, takes up to a 60. Much better than one of the flat bottomed skiffs.

I like a jon boat for the inlet. Some of the places I fish are loaded w/oyster shells, and they're hard on fiberglass. With the jon boat, I can nose it up on the bar, get out and fish the sloughs. It also gives me access to REALLY skinny waters.

I've got a 17 tracker v-hull that I'm unfortunately getting rid of. Joining the navy and don't use it much anymore.. It's a beautiful boat for the inlets and will run ocean if it's under 3ft. I have used it to troll for Spanish and blues on multiple occasions. Great for drifting lynnhaven or Rudee. Solid aluminum boat.. Can run it up on the beach and walk around if needed. Currently has a 40 on it but is rated for a 60. It's got a small platform up front that's great for throwing a net from and a small live well to hold bait and fish. Check out the tracker and ranger lineup they are seriously tough boats
