Tom - Trust me , those poachers knew they were on an oyster sanctuary. No excuse with todays GPS units.

Not sure which is worse - poachers continue to steal oysters or courts that keep handing out slap on the wrist type fines.

Skip, thanks for caring. I do not know if it is true, that the Judges are letting the poachers off with light fines. The Judges have to follow the sentencing guidelines, and more importantly, They try to be fair. They try to take "everything" into consideration.

I think that it would be wise to [ watch ] follow this carefully, and actually see what fines are given. As poaching becomes more and more a political issue, the Legislature may raise the fines again. The DNR may suspend licenses. The new points system should be a help, don't you think?

I am very interested to see what happens in princess anne tomorrow. I hope someone will go and report, on what happens.

the little kids care - they're working hard growing spat in classrooms all over the state for planting in the bay. they're told that oysters will help filter the water and they're shown how they provide habitat for other chesapeake creatures. they glow with sincere hope for the future.

NRP police care and go out in the rain, fog etc to protect the resource.

it will be interesting to see if the judges follow through. look forward to hearing back about how this goes.
