Reports are coming in from the fish ladder folks at Conowingo that the very first of the Hickory shad are being caught in the fish ladder for transport above the dam.
This DOES NOT mean that fishing for shad has started at this early date but mother nature is dealing us some VERY warm weather and it seems that everything is starting early. I would suggest that shad fishing is several weeks away however customers have indicated that largemouths and crappies have invade the shallows and ARE being caught in our area already.
When shad DO start we are carrying a goodly supply of shad flies in stock along with woolybuggers/flashabuggers for trout and smallmouth fishermen. Let's hope for continued WARM weather with nomore than average water flow in the river.
