    Default VMRC & togs

Talked to the vmrc today and the advisary committee is suppose to meet on April 16th in newport news @ 6 pm. should be in the paper soon. they could open the season earlier or increase the bag limit or both or do nothing. It depends on you. If you want to be heard or just show support that would be the time to do it.

Good info Tony. I went to one of those meetings and you can be heard but unfortunately don't have the ability to vote. It's not a bad idea to go. If enough voices are heard that could influence a decision. I believe it is in Building 2600 downtown NN.

The more recreational anglers appear a these meetingss, the more VMRC recognizes that it is important to listen to the wishes of recreationals. We now have new leadership at VMRC (Jack Travelstead) who has been at VMRC long enough to see the increasing imortance to the economy of recreational fishing and boating activity. Recreationals have always been willing to write letters and support VMRC requests from the legislature. I suggest that more recreationals attend these VMRC meetings and display their interest in decisions made by the Commission related to all matters.

Hate to be a wet noodle, but if you aren't lining their pockets, they won't listen.

I always receive a notice in the mail of these meetings. I would have missed this had not tonydivefish posted a notice here on tidalfish.

Others who normallyj receive notices did not receive them either. Dave Agee is calling Travelstead to get an agenda and ask more details about the meeting which is posted on the VMRC "meeting" website ??? Stay tuned !!

I got my notice today. From what I can tell the reduction that we took was 50%. They changed things and now we have to do a 39% reduction.

    What are the options?

I don't know. But the Commission does not meet until April 24th. No changes can be effective until then. Thus the season will be closed on April 16 no matter what else happens. My guess is that they will open things up earlier than Sept 23rd

This meeting will be Monday April 16 at 6 pm in downtown NN, VMRC headquarters , 4 th floor. Open to public

I expect there will be opportunities for comments on the hot topics.

Got my notice in mail today.....The following is the agenda:

On the agenda are changes to managemet measures of commercial and recreational tautog catches in 2012 and 2013.

Discussion of opening the commercial striped bass season in January....a month that is now closed to commercial harvest.

Also a request to allow spear fishing for striped bass.

This is a meeting that is open to public and comments from participants will be invited.
