In Virginia you can set two pots per person without a crab pot license.
Just wondering how many pots can a person set without a license. I thought it was two but a friend told me three. Buy the way I'm in Virginia waters.

It's two in MD also but they must be set by a water front property owner and be attached to a pier or within 100 feet of it...................Gary

wtihout a license it's two in Virginia. I don't think it has to be attached to a pier in Virginia and pretty sure you don't have to use turtle guards(might be a good idea). You can buy rec pot license that lets you use 5 pots for $36 but it's only good from June 1 thru Sept. 15. You can find the regs here and check.

thats correct, VA makes no stipulation concerning property owners and piers, that would be MD
Also in VA if you and your buddy use a boat together and go out it is one Bu per vessel limit. If you both have 5 pot licenses it is still one Bu.
One Bu per person if you are crabbing from the shore. Same applies to 24 peeler crab rule.
