    Default Flounder

    Late post but good report

Headed down to Quimby VA this past Saturday to do a little flounder fishing , the reports i was hearing were sparatic at best but decided to give it a try anyway

So headed down 7 am with a bucket full of minnows squid and my trusty pearl gulp shrimp , arrived to a light drizzle calm winds and more bad reports from the local harbor master , came this far so we were going hell or high water , put lines in around 8:45 am drifted around for 2 hours without a single bite , few other boats around us havingthe same luck so i decided to try and jig the gulp shrimp while the tide was slack , had good luck in the summer on them but figured the water was a little to cool at 55 deg for gulp to be effective , rigged up drop em down and boom 3 jig up heavy fish lays down on em , after a epic battle and once around every rod in the boat that we were draging sqid and minneys on my buddy nets my biggest flounder to date 28 3/4 inches , not sure of the weight cause didn't have a scale but it had to be probably 12lbs maybe?.. over the next 2 hours we had steady pickings on nice size flounder from 18 to 23 inches , ended up with a nice limit of 16 fish and a surprise grey trout about 4lbs, would love to see the big grey trout come back to seaside again..

all fish were caught off of 4" pearl white gulp shrimp rigged with a big gamagatsu worm hook and 1/2 ounce bullet weight with 20lb flourocarbon leader , fish had no intrest in the squid and minney combo not even a nibble

when we got back to the dock we talked to another man and his wife that had no luck that day on the suid and minnow sandwich.. i am now a firm believer in the gulp baits and will not go floundering without them...

Man that's a sweet report . Nice work. We were getting them on the jig tree weeks ago. Sounds like it's on.

Great report, that is one big flounder. I can not break 25" down there and fish it a bunch some years.

I am with you all the way on the Gulp, I don't use any live bait anymore. Gulp grubs, shrimp and jerk shads on jig heads or bucktails is are go to baits.

My buddy is taking my boat down to Quinby tomorrow and will fish the rest of the week, I have a little fishing cabin 2 blocks from the ramp.

I posted this the other day but for the folks that use Gulp, Olies bought out Sports Athority's tackle and are selling pints of Gulp for 33 % off which is about $13.00 a jug.

If Red said it it's true on the power bait. I need to make it down there soon.

great report . the fishing has been good on days the wind is not blowing a gale . I have open days if anyone wants a trip .

BTW the way your fish weighed between 9.5 to 11 lbs depending on how fat it was .

Wish I had known this info. I fished Quinby Saturday as well and spent all day with squid and minnow or squid and silverside to catch 2 fish. Worse yet, I had Gulp on the boat and never thought to try it.

I too felt cooler water limited gulps effectiveness till Lance whopped ass on em Sat using just gulp on jigs. I hear gulp has come out w/a cold water version? Anyways nice work and better eats.
