    Default fishing with children

Hi Perry, God bless you for taking children fishing.
    .
You want a hook that will go arond your long finger, without pressure. Bait holder hooks are nice but not necessary. take the blood worm and cut a piece finger length. go in with the hook, and stitch thru the worm, like you are trying to sew bunches of meat, with the hook. It will smell right. the PIA fish cannot steal all the worm, cause you have sewn it. Take two camera'a one will not work. take pix of the child with the most rediculous fish. It does not matter to the baby.
    .
forget about BA, bring wire cutters and needlenose. Bring a case of patience.
    .
Two hooks above a small weight. if a lot of current, may need more weight. some like a tiny piece of styrofoam, on the top hook leader , to make it float. Opinions vary. Good luck friend. please post a report.
    .
My dad's brother James D. Granger RIP, took me [ early AM ] on the magothy, in 1956. He smoked luckies, unfiltered. It was dark and cold. I did not like it much. Then he hooked a 26 inch Pickeral, all hell broke loose!!! He hooked a fish, and I was hooked on fishing. BTW, live minners move and smell right to a lot fo fish. Sometimes when something smells right, you just want some... . good luck.
    .
Put a rope under the crotch of each child. That way they cannot slip out of life jacket.
    You would never forgive yourself.

Circle hooks are required if you are targeting striped bass. Best to use them regardless this time of the year, you don't want to gut hook a nice striper and kill it.

Perry - please see the regs: http://dnr.maryland.gov/fisheries/re...l&Region=Tidal

of special note: "Circle hooks or J hooks (less than 1/2") when using bait"

The reg was written to allow small J hooks for perch fisherman, and encourage striper fishermen to use circle hooks.

If you wanna catch fish there stop by herbs for advice or go to the elk river side take the biggest rods you have and three ounce sinkers line up with the big trailer park across the elk and throw the bloodworms as far as you can.Try to fish a tide that is moving or the kids will be bored to tears.Dont forget the sunscreen! Just outta curiosity was Tom from GB helpful ?It seems he may have been drinking heavily.

Elk river side is out of bounds for striper fishing!

Follow the regs...Remember huge rockfish a caught there every year around this time from the banks. I would use some cut bait also you will catch some nice catfish & rockfish. Best of luck. Be save along the rocks.

Here are a couple of ideas.
    Sinker weight- adjust to current.
Hook size/type- See MD DNR regs.
Leader length- don't over think it, 18"-24" is fine.
If the fish are there, and they want it, the length won't deter them.
