    Default Kona, Hawaii Fishing

Hey guys, my wife and I are taking a trip at the end of this month (April) to the big island. Has anybody ever fished there and if so could you recommend a good charter capt? Thanks for any help you can provide!

Honokohau Harbor is where most of the charter fishing takes place on Kona. I fished the Sundowner with Darren Issacs and we had a decent day. He no longer runs that boat, it's captained by Randy Llanes who I here is a good captain. Another suggestion is the Ihu Nui which also a great boat. No long boat rides there, the fishing literally starts when you clear the marina... Expect to hook up with wahoo, tuna, dolphin and assorted marlin species.

I have fished there several times and always go with Jeff Rogers. A good guy who works real hard putting fish in the boat. He has access to a couple of boats the smaller of which, a 35ft Phoenix, he runs without a mate. Basically, more hands on for everyone else. My wife and I have caught marlin, wahoo, amberjack, Hawaiian grouper and dorado while fishing with him. His web site follows:

Thanks thraex52, I actually came across his site today - without a mate sounds great to me!
