    Default Lynnhaven Inlet

Last April in Saltwater Sportsman they ran an article about Lynnhaven Inlet. I didn't get a chance to fish it last year, but i'm hoping to give it a shot this year. I have a 18 ft. Parker with a poling platform and an electric trolling motor. Anyone have any advice? Thanks

In all honesty, Lynnhaven sucks. Undersized specs, small puppy drum, ok flounder, sometimes decent stripers, and great for spot and croaker when their in season. Don't forget about the crazy amounts of boat traffic, and FRIENDLY Police to deal with. I have never been impressed with Lynnhaven. Maybe I don't know what I am doing in Lynhaven, just my opinion, and you know what they say about opinions. [grin]

I am going to have to agree for the most part with harryh3o. I have fished there a bunch. Out of probably 20 trips I'd say the only decent ones were the 3 times I figured out how to catch some good flounder right under the bridge. And believe me, that is TOUGH. I do it from a kayak. You only get a 1/2 window when the current isn't ripping through there at 5kts+. Rude boaters everywhere. I have been cussed there, had shore fisherman chuck sinkers at me, and cops harrass me.

All that said, I will probably go back the first time it is to rough to get out to HRBT or CBBT.

Oh yeah, and that was with live bait. I have not tried my flyrod there yet!

My advice is fish the bridge tunnels when the weather allows. If you are a real lover of small water flats type fishing take the boat down to Hatteras and fish the sound.
