I'm a novice flyfisherman, and plan to try to catch some shad in the Potomac, from a boat, this spring. A friend has lent me a 7 wt.rod with SWF 7F Wulff fly line, an 2 sink tips, 5 and 10 ft. Do you think that should be adequate? What technique would you recommend? Any advise will be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Yeah, what Doug said. :)

I would only add that if you're not catching but those around you are, then odds are that either you are not deep enough, or you're in the wrong place.

In general, a good place to start out is just this side of the seam between the fast water of the main channel and the slower water of the cove.
