New Maryland Fishing License System - Looks Good!!
FYI -
DNR is currently rolling out their new license system which looks really nice. We went to training yesterday and I was impressed. If you purchased a Maryland license in the past, your information should be in the new system which will make for speedy processing.
One of the great new features is that the agents can replace a lost license including fishing boat decals, for a small fee (not the registration decal). This is great since most of the agents keep more accessible hours than the DNR Service Centers.
You will also receive an emailed copy of your license which means you can keep a copy on your smart phone which is presentable and acceptable to the Natural Resource Police. No need to carry a paper copy if you have your smart phone.
This new system mandates a federal Identification Number such as a Social Security Number. This is a federal law that Maryland must adhere to. Also, if you purchase a Maryland License, they will ask for a phone number. This automatically registers you in the National Saltwater Angler Registry.

I think DNR did a good job with the new system.
Keith, we have had the new system, (COMPASS) for about a month now. Don't believe that anyone who purchased a license before is in the system. They are not. In the beginning, we had quite a few problems, but hopefully they have most of them ironed out by now. I know we are now having less problems than we did in the beginning.
I have been advising my customers to make a copy or two of their licenses so that they will have a copy if they lose the original. But, you have to tell them to make the copy before they lose it. I have already had a couple, who have lost their licenses, and they had not made copies. The first thing I do when someone wants a license is put their date of birth in and do a search. This seems to work quicker than putting in their name, date of birth and driver's license.

I'm glad someone likes it, The new COMPASS system is only compatible with the newest versions of web browsers. The scripts repeatly crashed my Internet Explorer.
Good thing for tackle shops, because I can't afford a new computer.
I'm of the belief it sucks until proven otherwise.
I was able to pull up myself, my brothers, my father and my uncle and saw a huge list of 100,000 people in the system. Perhaps they just uploaded the data yesterday.

Keith, don't get me wrong. There are a lot of names in there but there are quite a few that are not. How do you like the idea of supplying your own computer and paper?

Well, since I did not have a computer or internet at my shop, which I have never needed before, I had to purchase a computer and now pay for the monthly internet fees. (Maybe I am still living in the dark ages.) Also supplying all the paper. Yes, it bothers me. I mean, it isnt like we are going to get rich selling licenses. Many shops have decided not to sell licenses at all, now that they have to pay for everything. If you check on the DNR web page, you will see that probably 75 -80 percent of all agents are Wall-Mart.
However, I do feel that we have to sell licenses. It is certainly a draw for our shop. Even if a guy only buys a license, at least he sees what you have for sale and there is the possibility that he will come back to purchase something.
