Snakehead Fishing

Last Saturday my buddy from Richmond, my son Sam and myself headed down to do some snakehead fishing off the Potomac River in our Hobie kayaks. My son Sam caught this 23 inch snakehead, his first ever....and they are excellent table fare. John Veil added his catch to the largest catch board. We will be participating in the 3rd Annual Snakehead tournament June 2-3 on the Potomac where you can catch with rod/reel or bowfish. We will be bowfishing in that tournament. I think last year the largest one caught was around 42 inches.

I'd like to try that sometime. I've caught bowfin accidentally and they were a lot of fun.

I think they sould make them a state fish, instead of trying to kill them all.They fight better then the bass.............woody

I've been thinking about giving that a try. Where would one launch a 14' boat in the potomac and what's the best bait to use for a snakehead?

Slavin's so you can fish the Mattawoma (upstream)

Pohick in VA, go left and find the pads.

There are other places I am sure.

Weedless frogs, mice etc.....but they will hit other bass catching lures.
