I have a few fishing / outdoor apps...

    - Navionics
    - DNR App
    - SeaTow App
    - NOAA App (BouyData)

There are also a ton of fishing games if that's what you are looking for.

I use both iPhone and iPad.
Both require 'net connection or wi-fi connect.
    Apps
Navionics app is good backup for your on board gps
    Radar scope is great http://www.basevelocity.com
NOAA buoy app has great tide graphs

I have found that setting up a set of links and storing on a page works better in most cases
Ck out www.donwtimecharters.com/weather for a set of links I found to be most useful.
The wind prediction site is great.
Once you find sites that work for you, save or bookmark that specific site for a quick Check of what's happening.
Most of the apps I've tried don't seem as good as weather links, but look nice. Most are free so it's no brainer to test it out.

Can't you just use your ipad as a nice ~10" gps. Even if you don't have it on the monthly plan couldn't you tether it to your I phone? Does Ram Mounts make a scution cup attachment for the ipad?

I use several on my Iphone that are good:
    Navionics
    Windfinder (pretty acurate predictions)
    Sea Tow (free)
    Buoy Data
Ship Finder - love this one, shows all of those cargo ships coming and going and their speed, you can plan moves across the channel accordingly.
