    Default Any Mid Rapp Reports

Any reports out there on the mid Rapp? I am going to try to get out this weekend to poke around from Urbanna down to the bridge and maybe up to Waterview. I will report on any croaker or striper. Be nice to see some large croaker coming in to kick things off.

Where do you normally check for croaker? Around 20' or so? We haven't tried for them in the rapp yet, but we might if the striper bite is off.

DF showed some good looking stuff in 20-24 off the silo's the last couple days, but I didn't have rods in new (used) boat. I hope to get back to rapp tomorrow If weather(winds ) permit I plan to give croaker a try.. I have never fished rock in spring, but saw signs the last couple days (bait, birds)

Sharon lea, what baits did you use? I am thinking of trying minnows since creeks are loaded with them. In yrs past, when netters caught them I could catch them but only in shallow waters. ( warmed creeks)
Seem to remember hearing your handle on radio many times over the yrs! :)

Tried fishing out of Water View this past Saturday, with some guys from work. We were there for about five hours, and caught three Croakers, three White Perch, and one Catfish. The water temp was around 56-57 degrees.

Good input Sharon Lea. Thx for that. Seems to me that all this early warm weather had the opposite impact of what one would expect on the croaker bite. The bite seems later than past years. Go figure. I have a mess to clean up before I can get out. Juvenile Osprey made a very messy and poor attempt to build a nest on top of the boat. You could tell they were young and did not have a clue what they were doing other than making a a huge mess.

Group of us were in Waterview and Fished hard all day Friday/Saturday and till noon on Sunday. Managed 4 medium croakers all weekend. Couple of dozen cats with one going about 4 lbs. Frozen raw shrimp outfished squid 4 to 1. Fish bites and Gulp Bloodworms caught zippy. Caught all the croakers around 12-16 foot. Tried everything from 4-46 feet. Nothing, not a bite off the dock which is a first.

In years past on the same weekend, we've crushed the big'uns. I think you are spot on about the early warm weather having the exact oppisite effect.

I always prefer shrimp in the early season.
