    Default Fuel filter recommendation

When I repower my boat this summer, I need to consider what to do with the fuel filter. Right now I use the 10 micron, screw-on filter and change it once a year and have had no problems to date with ethanol and/or water issues. But so many folks rave about those Racor glass bottomed filters. Is there any reason why I should not consider one of those? It looks like more money up front, but then occasionally you just empty the fuel at the bottom or whenever you start to see some water accumulating in there. And then you're not really buying filters all that often, you're just getting rid of the stuff at the bottom instead. Right?

Which option would you do and why?

I have the 2 micron racor on my 175 merc and have been told that it is too restrictive. Well unless you burn more than 90 gallons of fuel an hour it is . That dump bowl has come in handy over the years with the bad gas and condinsation that has been trapped in it. The mtr; would start missing or running bad and i would just shut her down dump it out, start it back up, let her idle for a bit and off i would go running smooth. I change my filter probably twice a year at least. I was going to buy the 10 mic; assembly but they were out of them at paxton at the time i was buying so i was stuck with the 2 mic. No regrets! My brother has the 10 and he has no problems with it at all. good luck.

I just bought a used boat and instantly put on a Racor 10 micron with clear bowl, more expensive than the regular screw on filters but you can see whats going on if there is any water, have been on boats with solid canisters and they have worked fine also.
