Spent about two hours on the bank at Chain Bridge this morning. 6:00 to 8:00 - Landed about half a dozen hickories, and ldr-ed about that many more.

Saw only one other fisherman who looked like he was using spinning gear under the bridge.

Red/White and Orange/Yellow clousers & mini-darts seemed to do better than the chartreuse stuff I threw, but nothing seemed to really turn them on.

It was better than sleeping, but far from the fish-a-cast days from the peak of the run.

Wonder if the fish got by us while the river was up or if they're still coming?

    Thanks for posting.

    Did you see any herring?

A few fish jumped out of the water, but I was always looking in the wrong direction when they did it. I'd bet they were herring, but I couldn't swear.

I've seen lots more of them in other years.

There are a few herring jumping here in Georgetown, but during a lunchtime walk today I didn't see any congregating in the usual places.

The only herring I saw at Fletchers today were being caught by cormorants. Saw no herring in the shallows. I hear that a fairly strong run of Alewife herring came thru the Potomac about the 3rd week of March. They were done and gone before any of us showed up to fish.
