    Default Fishing sucks right now...

What happenned ??? What do some of you on the board think?? Did they leave, Did 4000 boats decimate them ?? Are they laying low cause of moon phase,Pressure Or whatever ??? Was catchin double digits before that Noreaster blew thru then that was it !!! Now i fish a looong time to get a limit IF i get any fish at all.... Something happenned .... It aint just in chessy beach or the baybridge but the whole bay seemed to shut down... North has been a LIL better but not much. When the bite is on it last for about half hr to 45 mins and thats it.. The norm is a great bite 2-3 hours...

I think they are leaving fast, but we did get a little spoiled last week. My experience is very similar to yours. First 5 trips of the season out of Solomons last week produced 14-26 nice fish each outing in less than 4 hours each trip. Yesterday, my first trip since Saturday, it was a bit of a typical Spring trolling struggle. 9 bites, 6 good fish, 2 throwbacks, and 1 drag pull/band pop that didn't stick in over 5 hours with lines in water. For me, yesterday's action was more typical of Spring trolling over the years - anything Better than a 1 fish per hour average catch rate is acceptable, and we usually have a couple trips much better than that, but not a whole week like we did from April 21 - April 28 when we pretty much had multiple fish on most of the time. Now we have to actually work at it again.

Scott who knows but one of things I've wanted to try is 2 get em off the coast when they venture back north. Seems the bite has been on ocean side now going on for over a week now so it could be associated w/the slow down. The surf guys tear em up but I sux at surf fishing so I'm gonna troll spoons just on the backside of the breakers off either boards or riggers. Soon the monster reds will show and be in there w/the striped mullets.

There hasn't been much of a bite since Wednesday of last week. I marked a ton of fish this past weekend, so there's no shortage of fish, but they just won't seem to actively feed for some reason. One of my closest fishing buddies hammered them from Assateague surf this past weekend, so they are starting to exit the bay, but that should be the first group of spawners, so there are still plenty of fish in the bay.
It's definitely been a bit unusual this year.

Fixit - if you find the answer let me know. I have been scratching my head trying to figure out the same question. I think the spawn happened early and the fish are leaving fast, however, there are certainly fish around that just are not biting. This weekends tournament, given the shear numbers will not help the situation. Good luck.

Terp, You answered my question, There leaving the bay ... Quick.. If the bites on in the surf and ocean then there exiting the bay. No bite when there in a hurry to get out..

Restless, I do believe the fish we are seeing on the meter are heading south and or in travel mode with bags packed... Other marks may be small fish as i have hooked plenty of those ...

My guess is that the weather front shut them down last weekend - and I expected them to pick back up this week. Willing to bet that there are still plenty of big fish around, and it will pick back - but the chances dwindle every day now...

Going to give it a shot tomorrow, and again on saturday - and that may be it for me. Time to start thinking about the offshore bite.

Although skunked this past saturday, this has been one of my better years. Gangbusters in PSCR.
