Took the kayaks to Manteo Sat. morning after hearing they were catching trout off the causeway bridge, trolled towards Johns ditch and had one hit on a storm but he didn't stay on. Turned in the ditch and fished all the holes, flats and everything in between, kinda slow. Bait was everywhere but no fish. Used Gulp Alive and bottom rigs with minnows. Nate had one good hit under a popping cork but came off. Nate switched over to squid and bottom rig and caught one small croaker after seeing other folks catching small croaker just to get the stink off, Rob couldn't take the pressure so he switched and caught a small croaker just so he wouldn't have to here about it all the way home. Fished down to the top secret honey hole, plenty of bait but no hits. On a whim I decided to try a small mirror lure I bought about a year ago but hadn't had much luck with it. First cast, bam small trout, second cast, bam another trout, forth cast hooked up but came off half way to the kayak. Thought I had really hit on something, call Nate and Rob over to join in on the fun and we beat the water too death and never had another hit. I don't get it, crazy deep holes, flats everything you could ask for but still no fish. I really thought minnows would be the ticket but we never got a hit with them! One day I'm gonna figure out that place!
