MD Politicians are nothing but a bunch of hot air...they need to learn to take care of their own natural resources. Maybe some of these user groups that are making money with your donations should sue the state of maryland for their antiquated fisheries management.

I think most of you have appropriately identified this press release/issue as politics. Of course it's politics, but it shows that some politicians, including the governor and attorney general of MD are willing to put pressure on ASMFC (and Omega) on our behalf. What is wrong with that?
Bottom line, the situation in the bay keeps getting worse, but the political enviorment in Md. stays the same.... Unfortunatley, the state is broke because of "big govt" mentatlity... You have the tax payer who has been pushed to the limit on taxes (and are about to be expected to pay more after this week) or a major corporation with ties to the medical industry who has billions of $.... who's going to win? lol... where's our boat ramps in AA Co? lol... see where this is going, good luck, though I'm on your side.
Plain and simple, this state sucks, and AA Co sucks even worse. If my house wasnt paid for and my job here, I'd high tail it out of here asap... My parents left this state the day they retired... something about giving a high percentage to the state they worked for, for 35yrs in taxes where there were so many other states they could move for cheaper with no taxes. And the fishing and water quality there is 10x's better too.
Greetings Friends: I agree with Gary / Crabby, and I will tell why.
Mr. Gansler has and is doing good things for the ecosystem and the bay, facts follow immediately.
.
As you all know I have been getting involved, and working towards various means of reducing the poaching, and Discouraging illegal activities, regarding the Natural Resources violators. Note that I am not trying to stir the pot, or create arguments about who the violators are. That is shown each month in the courtrooms around the state. The facts will speak for themselves.
.
All Natural Resources violators, are hurting the resource. Eastern - Western does not matter. Where you go to church does not matter. If you are taking more than the NR laws allow, you are hurting the ecosystm [s].
.
Mr. Gansler has taken direct action [s ] to protect the ecosystems, and the bay. Specifically:
* Under Gansler's watch, there are new programs, in many courthouses around the State of Maryland.
- Many Counties have a " Dedicated" Natural Resources "Day" [ or two ] each month.
_ All or most of the NR trials are heard on that day.
* Under Gansler's watch specific State's attorneys have been trained and familiarized with Nr Matters.
_ These [ Trained ] individuals are Prosecuting NR matters... And they are really taking an interest,
in curbing, and decreasing the profitability of Natural Resources violations.
_ the increased Prosecution will send a message.... to the violators....
* During Gansler's Tenure, There have been increased [ and improved ] Systems to track and isolate habitual offenders of Natural Res. codes.
- an example is the points system that was worked out.
.
With all due respect to the Skeptical Citizens, Granger is hopeful that OUR STATE LEADERS, will continue in this enforcement improvement.
.
I happen to have some familiarity with these matters, as I am in court at annapolis, each month, for the "Natural Resources violator day" .
Anne ARundel County has a special day each month.
The date for May is 18 may, 2012.
.
Please give the Executive branch some respect, while they get these programs into second and third gear.
America is great partly, because we govern with laws. The laws are doing something. [ My honest Opinion ].
.
This is not really a political or racial thing. Thank God, we have a strong Executive branch.
.
Citizens and TF'ers are welcome to read, more details, and reports, in the FORUM:
" PROTECT THE FISH " [ which is about 30 down the Forum Stack ].
Note that Mr. Brandon White gets big credit for creating this forum. He has stood up. He deserves our thanks.
.
There are reports each month summarizing who was cited for what violation. I and others have been disapointed and surprised that half of the violators, fail to appear in court.!!!
.
Some comments are made by TF'ers, but most do not know these reports even exist. No doubt, some do not care.
.
In my opinion, there are positive changes happening in Maryland Enforcement. I credit many for their good work.
The monthly summaries would not be possible without the good and wise efforts of Mr. Gansler, and the many talented States' Attorneys.
.
I have never met Mr. Gansler but when I do, I will shake his hand and say thank you! Gansler has shown himself to be an enemy of the violators. So he is a friend to the fish, and the bay. A great man once said " Mat 7:16 Ye shall know them by their fruits.
".
.
The gospel of luke has some similar teaching: Luke 6:43-49 [43] "No good tree bears bad fruit, nor does a bad tree bear good fruit. [44] Each tree is recognized by its own fruit. People do not pick figs from thornbushes, or grapes from briers. [45] The good man brings good things out of the good stored up in his heart, and the evil man brings evil things out of the evil stored up in his heart. For out of the overflow of his heart his mouth speaks.
.
No one has influenced me to post this comment. It is either true or I am a liar. You be the jury.

On what basis could the State of Maryland reasonably litigate? Maryland doesn't own Va's part of the bay. Maryland isn't in charge of the Atlantic ocean. Menhaden aren't owned by the State of Maryland. The only reasonable basis Maryland has to squabble over these fish, would be about money i.e. not enough fish for Maryland fishermen to kill. Personally I would love to see Maryland officials make that argument. Maryland is so concerned about the bay and the fish, then maybe we could stand down some little portion of our pound net fishery. And stop littering the bay with crab gear. And quit gill netting all things that swim. And stop scraping every oyster bar. Va's anti-conservation sucks. Maryland isn't much better.
