Hey all, First thread and looking for some tips advice on sound fishing near kitty hawk N.C. This is the first year I'm towing my 19 foot sea ox down to obx. I will be down the last week May 26 till june 2nd. Im intrested in catching flounder and cobia if there crusing in the sound. Also I have some crab pots I'm thinking about brining down . Just trying to catch some fish
Well I would try for trout, blues and flounder in the sound at Oregon Inlet, I'm pretty sure you will need a license for the crab pots using a boat and you will need a fishing license . I'm not sure how many pots you can have if using from a pier but its not many. I would check with local tackle store just to be sure.
Hey Fishtales , I have never fished for trout do you have any tips techniques you would be willing to share ? What boat landing would you suggest
thanks
Pirates Cove has a nice state ramp and Oregon Inlet Fishing center. The little bridge as its called, has had good trout fishing for the past month. Check out TW's bait & Tackle store for daily reports (twstackle.com). That bridge is the first bridge you will come to when going to Manteo, continue across and you will see the big bridge go across it and at the stop light turn left. Pirates Cove Marina is on the right but the state ramp is to the left. Shallow water getting to the little bridge but I think you can fish anywhere going to it. I use gulp alive, mirror lures, grubs, bottom rig, whatever. Check with TW's or Fishing Unlimited on the causeway right at the little bridge, they know better than me. Oregon Inlet is straight down HWY 12 towards Hatteras, you can't miss it. Fish the deeper channels for the flounder but stay out of the way, the charter boats will be coming! Blues will be wherever. Oregon Inlet is a maze of sandbars so be careful and good luck. Don't forget to let us know how you did.
