Default Kayak fish under the Sandbridge Pier?

I was heading down to Sandbridge May 23 thru May 26 with the family, and thought about kayak fishing under/near the pier. A friend of mine who fishes the area every now and then thought my idea may not be the best, and to stay fishing from on top of the pier. Can I get a little help from the pros here on the board, as I have have no experience with this pier. I would plan on targeting blues, flounder, croaker.
Thanks for any help and advice on tactics. If any fish is good now please let me know, I have an assortment of tackle.

Although it might be legal to fish under a commercial fishing pier (Va Beach may have a regulation regarding it but there is nothing in state code or regulation about it) . . . if there are people fishing on the pier you risk damage to yourself and boat inflicted by grumpy pier fishermen.

    Not always a good idea.

Others may come in and say that it is a common practice, and maybe it is OK to do it under certain sections of the pier, but this is my opinion.

I agree with what Tom says, and with all the other fishing options in the area why would you bother.
