    Default Water quality in Patapsco

    What is going on with the water in the Patapsco? I went out Saturday, I left Bear Creek, headed to Hart Miller Island, I noticed as I left the Patapsco the water was getting clearer, I also noticed underwater grass at the marina where I keep my boat. Have not seen grass in water there in last four years. Anyone have any insights on this?

    April report in Baltimore Sun;
    'Mahogany tide' of algae turning harbor murky
    Scientists blame warm water, sewage leaks for early severe algae bloom

    Record-high water temperatures and a March sewage leak are contributing to a large algae bloom in the Baltimore harbor, bringing what is known as a "mahogany tide" of reddish-brown algae to the Middle Branch of the Patapsco River.

    The bloom is somewhat earlier and more severe than usual, scientists say, despite the fact that a developing drought has limited runoff pollution from feeding algae growth...

    Default Nasty stinky water

    Greetings, friends:
    Furnace and Marley creeks in Glen burnie have / are experiencing very bad water conditions and a fish kill off.
    .
    Furnace creek has what appears to be clouds of deep butterscotch sediment, kind of boiling around, under the surface. As tide comes in or goes out, the clouds move, reminds me of the clouds on Jupiter.
    .
    We are having a fish kill : Details: If you walk 50 feet of beach, you will see 300 dead white fish fry about an inch long [ look like baby bluefish ], Adam says they are L/Y babies. In that same 50 feet you will see five dead rockfish about six inches, and five bass about three inches. In that same distance, you will see ten dead sunfish, and fifteen fish [ six inches ] that could be menhaden or l/y.
    .
    There is a strong stinking smell that is noticeable [ and ugly ] fifty feet from the water.
    .
    Ten days ago we had that solid impenetrable rusty reddish brown color in the water. It was so dense, that it changed the viscosity of the river, it was thicker, like heavier. I do not know the cause, nor the solution. Does not seem healthy.

    Report tonight on the news was talking about a serious fish in Marley and Furnace Creeks kill due to the DO levels. I think they said DO was .07.

    Fish count so far was 20,000 +/- with a warning that 100,000 would not be impossible. Lots of shad were being reported.
