    Default Choptank

First off... This is my first post obviously. I have been using this forum for the bulk of this year, and I apreciate all of the great information that you all share. It is nice to be a part of a group that tries to help on another out. I am a North Carolina transplant. I used to work on some private offshore boats, and spent most of my life fishing the pamlico sound and Atlantic beach area.

    My Question,

I have been reading a lot about people fishing all over the bay, but I have seen nothing about the Choptank. Has anyone been fishing from Cambridge to the mouth at all? I fished Cambridge a lot last year due to it being an easy drive from Seaford.

Thanks again Tidal Fish. I look foward to sharing some good reports this year with you guys.

You havent heard much about the Choptank because a large part of it is still closed to targeting rockfish until June 1st. On May 16th the mouth of the river was opened up. See map http://www.dnr.state.md.us/fisheries...bregmap04.html

The Choptank is a great fishery. Short runs from Cambridge that have always produced for me would be Howell Pt rip on a good flood tide for rock and specks, Chloras Pt. is one of the most significant drop offs in the river. You can fish from 4ft of water to 80. Great hard heading spot. On the Dorchester side Castle Haven can be a good area. Late last summer that area held some nice specks for the first time in probably 12 years. Hoping that it repeats this year since the bite has been strong so far on the lower bay. Good luck.

Sorry for the lack of info.

Last year I fished with a buddy out of Cambridge frequently. We mostly went after hardhead, and did relativly well. We did run out to the bay a few times to live line for rock.

I purchased a 21' seahunt CC last fall and mostly fished Indian River and Delaware Bay until this spring. So far this year I have fished out of Deal some which I love because it is like fishing back home. I was really asking about the Choptank for the hardhead bite. I am jonesing for some croaker.

If you're in Seaford make a run to Nanticoke MD or Deal Island and fish the Tangier Sound and the islands......great fishing.
