HDS Gen 2 or Elite DSI Gold (5 inch)

Bout narrowed down my next FF/GPS to these two models.
The Elite is a decent package, it seems, but the GEN 2, newer technology, can expand into areas the other can't.
I'll use it mostly on lake and bay, inlet type areas.
Boat is 16 ft CC.

Can I get some input from those with some experince as to which is the best for my usage?

UPDATE: Found a new HDS 5 Gen 1 for 500 after rebate. Decent maps, better fishfinder and will support side scan if I ever decide to get it (doubtful).
THese HDS gen 1 units were snapped up when the rebates were offered.

Unless you are planning on networking (radar, adding Structure Scan, Sonic Hub, ETC), for your size boat I would advise the Elite series. But if a five inch screen is not large enough, then check out the HDS7. Which in my opinion is always the best buy of any MFD on the market.
