Went to the 000's looking for gaffers and maybe a billfish. Great looking water, grass and lots of longlining rigs. Never had a bite
for 4 hrs.and never saw anyone catch a fish. Got on the 100 f line and ran north toward the tower. Found a small piece of grass by itself and caught 3 nice gaffers, lost a gaffer and and lost a sail that broke us off eating a naked on the flat at the back of the boat. Trolled inshore around the 230 and more longliners everywhere. Talked to 1 charter boat that got 2 dolphin bites all day. Had a friend in a buddy boat with us that got 1 fat albert bite all day. Spoke with a guy whose brother in law was on one of the longliner boats and said their mahi catch was insaine this week. It definately impacted the bite after how well we did last week.
Wow Jason, It really sucks that they now are targeting Mahi also. Heck it's tough enough just trying to fish behind a handful of top sportfisherman let alone miles and miles of commercial Dolphin gear. Man I so much wanted to get in a day last weekend when it was still red hot.
I just got back last night and I'm already planning the next adventure.![]()
Only the truly ate up understand the maddness.
Bill.
