I am going to be down in VA Beach for 2 nights in mid June and was wondering if anyone has any recommendations for 1/2 day head boat charters. I have done the one out of Dockside (http://www.fishingvabeach.com/) previously and have no major complaints about it, but want to see what else is out there. The http://www.rudeeinletcharters.com/ is a no go, because I am not going on a boat that will not allow me to BYOB. I am not out there to get trashed, but would rather drink my own stuff and throw the mate a nice tip than pay inflated prices for beer.

The reason the Rudee Boats do not allow you to bring your own beer is because all of the boats have ABC licenses on board. That would be like brining your own beer to a bar. We keep the prices afordable for our customers, you can purchase a 6 pack for only $8.00.
Thanks,
Rudee Staff
You could try The Judith Anne or the Ocean Eagle
If i were you then, Id find an open charter, a 6 pack trip and pay your share.
I think in Virginia the ABC license makes it illeagle to bring alcohol on board or into any business that sells it, and if you sell beer, you have to have an ABC license. At the marina next to mine is a great little greasy spoon and bar, you gotta be real carfeul when you are walking across the parking lot with a adult carbonated beverage in you hand, cause if you get within X number of feet of the cafe, not quite close enough to shout at a buddy that might be sucking down a cool one at their patio refreshment stand, you stand the risk of the manager rushing out like a pit-bull, and gently telling you to pour out your adult carbonated beverage or turn around. They've probably had some unpeasantries with the State Liquor Board regarding people crossing that ill-defined line that separates commercial and private beverage consumption. Just the price of doing bidness in The Great Commweath of ole'Verginny. Anyways, I think $8.00 for a six-of-d'pack is a bargain just about anywhere. A lot more reasonable than the $8.00 I get soaked for a single in the airports, AND you get to fish instead of stand in line!!
