Default Fishing Report - Testing the River 5/28/12

First time out since the MSSA tournament. Kim and I got out for about 3 hours starting at 10am this morning. Trolled one of my good spots about 4 times and reeled in 4 fish...lost one. Two were unders, one was 21" and one was 24.5".

Then we decided to go cast one of our favorite spots. It was almost like hitting a good school of white perch with a taker on every cast....only Rock. Good sign no doubt. I reeled in at least 5, most pretty good size....all but one would have been keepers.

We then went in search of perch. Found a creek with a few but nothing bigger than 7". Still....lots of fun. Not bad for a 3 hour day. Waiting for Friday!

If I was looking to do some casting myself for these size Rocks... what kind of area should I be looking for?

Nole, I try to find hard sandy bottoms or old oyster beds, around piers. It can take a lot of time to find a good location and then when you do the pattern changes. One of my best spots hasn't produced anything for a couple years but I check it every so often to see if they return.

Woody, She is fine, she reeled in all but 1 fish when we were trolling. The first hook up had the rod bent in half screaming drag, as I steered away from the front of the piers we were trolling she went to hand me the rod and it came unglued. It was either a nice size Rock or maybe a Skate. At first I thought we lost the lure but when I reeled it up the lure and twister tail showed no signs of any problems. Casting, she was trying a dark purple lure with only a couple bumps here and there, but taking pics of me reeling kept her busy.

:-) I wasn't sure either, Woody. She is doing great, thanks for asking! This is number three for us and she is, by far, the most easy-going... it's been great, so far. Not only did we add a little baby girl... we also bought a 19' Triumph 190 Bay! Exciting times around our house.
