Way to go Jack. They sure are pretty fish and they make a good meal when fresh.
I enjoyed last fall's run of specs into the Choptank River and above. I made two trips in my kayak and caught a bunch of small, but fine looking specs from a Choptank tributary for my first ever Maryland specs.
I sympathize with your attempts to catch a fish species time after time without success. I have had two such quests in the past 15 years. The first was tarpon. It took three years of multiple charter trips in FL before my first tarpon came to boat side in 2003. Even stranger was a four-year quest to catch my first redfish. I booked multiple charters in redfish havens like LA, TX, and FL but always came back unfulfilled. Finally a few years ago, Brandon posted a mid-summer report about fishing for redfish in Lynhaven Inlet with a kayak fishing guide. I booked a 4-hour trip for the following Sat. I caught 7 redfish in 4 hours.
It sure feels good to achieve a species goal after a long, frustrating odyssey.
