I thought I could get a few hours of fishing in at Chain Bridge before the wind started Sunday morning. But no deal, the wind beat me there. Must have been some sort of strong venturi effect going on there at CB. The wind was strong enough to buffet me around on the rock tops. I was targeting stripers but also had a rod rigged for shad. I caught maybe a dozen stripers on spinning gear during 3 hours. Two were 18"&15" but the rest were small, 8"-12" dinks. What little action I was having shut down around 9:30am. No shad, the wind kept me from giving them an honest try. The very strong downstream wind made fishing quite difficult. Long casts needed to get to current seams resulted in huge bows forming in my line making fishing difficult. Light hickory darts were nearly imposible to cast to the sweet spots. Herring were in the area but not in the shallows. Only wperch I saw caught were all micro small. River still in excellent condition, vis pushing 4 feet. Oh well... at least I tried.
Windy is an understatement! My wife and I spent about 3 hours at Fletcher's on Sunday morning. I managed two hickories and two little perch while my wife didn't hook any. We had several more bumps before giving it up about 9am when the wind started really howling. Saw several stripers landed by guys with spinning gear.
