    Default Hunt - Big Fish

Have you guys caught this show? So these guys are somewhere fly fishing for Peacocks and to make a long story short, this bass heads for a tree along the bank. Well these guys go ripping in there with their boat, break off all the branches and begin to pull the tree out.

After the unsuccessful try, one guy dives in the water after the fish (I am sitting, watching and thinking, wait... how many beers have I had this evening). Then the camera guy is in the water filming this guy thrashing around. One minute later this guy pulls this giant Peacock out of the water above his head while treading water.

Don't know what to make of it. Almost like OLN is really reaching for new shows. Although IMHO that other new show I caught one day, Watch Catch, isn't too bad for Saltwater Flyfishing.

    What you think?

Caught that show also. That guy was Larry Dahlberg (creator of the Dahlberg Diver). He has always had a short slot on ESPN where he would showcase a particular species, usually something exotic. This is the second of his OLN shows that I have seen him jump in the drink on. He did a show in Russia fishing for Beluga sturgeons and after pounding them with the medium/heavy tackle, swithed over to an 8lb spinning outfit, and landed a beast, easily in the 175-200 lb. range, but needed to jump out (in waders) to chase the fish down as to prevent the line from snapping. I met Larry about 5 years ago at one of his slide show presentations here in VA and he is a neat guy. He has been about everywhere you could imagine, and caught big fish in each area, be it on fly or some other form. After seeing the other fish he was catching from that water with the peacocks, he has some big melons.

Dahlberg is the real deal. I saw that show. He wanted the fish. Some people just go to extra lengths. Be it, going out on rough days, or jumping in the water after fish.
There's a great picture rolling around of Brady standing in the inner wall area of Cedar Point Ruins holding his boat in position for his clients. That's pretty extreme when you think about it.
I've crossed rivers when I shouldn't have etc....
I wouldn't jump into that river for a peacock. Don't care how big it is. But then again...I'm not on a show.

Here's the thing that gets me about the shows. They are all sponsored. So, they have to use a certain reel, lure, or rod. That dilutes the reality of the situation. Dalhbergs show isn't so bad. But others make me sick...all they talk about is this lure or that lure which are oddly enough made by the same company.

Not to change the subject matter of the post, but is it me or are the "fly fishing" (or general fishing) shows getting fewer and fewer and worse and worse. Most of the ones around seem to be freshwater oriented. It wasn't too long ago there were quite a few really cool shows that were not very "product" oriented. Andy Mills show comes to mind as one that I use to watch all the time, but it was taken off the air a few years ago. Now that I have a DVR, there are not many fishing shows that I want to record!! Walkers Cay Cronicles is about it for me....and the Spanish Fly from time to time...
Are there that few of us that we can't support saltwater oriented fly fishing show?

We could certainly do with less bass fishing shows, most boring fishing shows ever.

Yeah I agree, I cannot stand to see anything by Roland Martin. Just one big scripted advertisement.

I definetley like the newer shows that are maybe more destination/experience oriented and less on equipment we need to buy.

Check out Whatch Catch this weekend on ESPN2 or OLN. It is pretty good although the hostess can get a little squealy at times. Overall not bad so far.

I'm sorry guys, but I cannot stand the host of Whata Catch. And she treats most of the guides like @#$%. That leaves only Fly Fishing America and Walker's Cay.

How have I missed this show? Walkers Cay is without a doubt the best. FFA is good....I also like In Search of Fly Water. Is that still on?
Wait a minute....Noke just said something technical that made sense... HEAD FOR THE HILLS!!! THE END IS NEAR!!!!
Come on...Mrs. Noke showed you how to work the dvr right? Maybe little Noke then?

Hey, OMC, try to jump in the H20 from time to time and save a friend from a huge colvert hole that just swallowed him whole.....now that would have taken some guts!![smile][smile]

Oh, by the way, I am the only person in the house that knows how to work the DVR. I will be in BIG trouble if the missus sees some of the stuff I have been recording! [angel]

Ah...you caught that jaded reference. Oh man...if I only had my camera out. I'd be willing to bet that you won't do that again.[grin]
