    Default Waterproof Tackle Bag?

Anyone know of a good quality waterproof tackle bag that would hold six or more Plano 3700 boxes and have at least one more pouch for pliers, leader, etc? Cabelas used to have a series of green colored vinyl bags in three sizes that stayed pretty dry (if you shut them). I have been using the med and large ones for a number of years. Do not think they still make them. Mine are starting to tear and I need to get something. A Google search showed some, but nothing really stood out. Bad deal taking on salt spray and having all your lure boxes wind up with saltwater in them. Lots of bags today say water resistant which means very little.

I see Plano is now making gasketed waterproof boxes. I bought one to try and it is OK, but with three big very stiff latches, they are not quick to open. Really do not like it much.

Not sure if it meets your functional needs, but I can vouch for the construction. I have the backpack in this line, and it is tough stuff.

All zippers need a shot of silicone spray once a year to keep them happy, BTW.

I go real spartan - I carry two fly boxes and a bag of plastics in a bag hanging off the leaning post. I also have one Plano 3600 with assorted jigheads/metal and plugs velcroed to that flat spot on the console just to the right of the throttle.

You'll think I'm crazy, but I found that the simple red and white playmate coolers that aren't worth a dang as a cooler, work great as a dry box. I comm. crab in all sorts of weather and I store all important items (papers/electronics/tools) in one w/o any problems.

Thanks Chris. A bag like that would be fine in layout and general construction. My concern is that it is not waterproof. How much water would get in the plastic boxes inside is not certain. When asked, a Cabelas expert gave this answer.

The Cabela's Advanced Anglers Pro Series Tackle Bags with Boxes (121302) are water resistant, the seams and zippers are not waterproof. The Super Magnum bag does have two external 100% waterproof pockets for storing electronics.

No water got in the Plano boxes in my old bag. It was made out of some kind of plastic and a flap covered the zippered openings. The zippers on this bag are not protected and I think water would get inside. You would think enough guys would want their tackle protected from saltwater to warrant someone making a waterproof tackle bag.

It looks as they still do make the bag I now have. I did not see it the last time I went up to Cabelas in Hamburg, but did find it online. They call it their storm proof bag. Unless someone comes up with something better, I will get another one of these. They are truly waterproof, not only water resistant. My old one is green. Looks as this one is gray. That is not important.

Very timely post. I need to replace 3 of my bags because the zippers are corroded. It's a shame because the bags themself are in good shape. I like the design of this bag and will be ordering a few. Thanks for your post Bill.

    SS-

I am ordering the the mid sized one that they call X-Large. The Super Magnum is just too big and bulky for me. I also have the smallest one they call Large. I guess they are appealing to the male ego with their names. They could just call them small, medium and large but they call them Large, X-Large and Super Magnum. The X-Large will hold six Plano 3700 boxes horizontally and you can slip a 3600 box on its side in front of them. Instead of all 3700 boxes you can put two 3600's. Because of the hard shell bottom the first box needs to be a 3700. After that you can put two 3600's per layer.
