This is a wonderful event. I'll be there as always.
Heck i still feel the hugs from last year.
Buckshot / others - The earlier you can sign up - the better. WAF assigns boats to families and much better if done ahead of the event.
That said - we will never turn a boat away , you might just put on stand by / back up.
Anyone who has been around boats knows they can have problems and with 30 to 35 boats , it's smart to have 1-2 as back ups.
If nothing else - some of the younger shore help can be treated to a quick fishing trip.
Trust me - once you do a Wish a Fish event , you will be hooked. Great cause and great group of people behind the scenes.

Just a friendly reminder - if you want to volunteer your boat to help out with Wish a Fish , we ask you to have the Coast Guard Auxillary inspect it ( free ).
Only takes about 10 minutes and is honestly good to have done each year.
The CG aux. will even come to your boat - can not get any easier then that.

Ive always felt guilty of not volunteering my time and skills enough. Now that Im finally in a position in my life to help some others this looks like a great event to be involved with.
Looked over the web link but didnt see a start time. Are all captains heading out to the same fishing holes or are we free to roam around and look for fish?
Thanks for the Coast Guard reminder, I still need to have that done.

Bill - We ask captains be at Sandy Point about 8:00 am to check in but feel free to come at 6:00 to help set up.
The families arrive around 9:00 and boats start out around 9:30. We ask the boats be back about 1:30 / 2:00 for lunch.
Most years the boats go just south of the bridge to Hacketts Point. It's good to stay with the other WAF boats - makes it easy for camera crew to get great photos. Every one works together to ensure the kids catch a few fish.
That said - you can go where ever you like. Some families enjoy cruising more then fishing - the kids get a thrill out of motoring under the bridge.
Keep in mind many have never fished before so a Toadfish we cuss at - is a cool thing to catch for the kids. Just being out on the water those few hours is a special treat.
I'll never forget the one young boy who told me he loved seeing the rainbows on the water. I did not understand as the day was sunny and no rainbows around. The captain clued me in - the boy was sitting in the stern and saw " rainbows " from the spray kicked out by the hull.
You'll have a blast - we have as much fun as the kids.

I am all signed up and ready to go!
Got my vessel inspection and all signed up!
My first mate will be a buddy that teaches junior sailing in Annapolis. I volunteered him because with the kids thirst for knowledge, he'll be a good source for local water info.
Looking forward to it!
