Fletcher's 5/13--latest shad so far for me

Got to Fletcher's and a boat about 7.30 am, fished until 10am. Caught 6 hickories, one gizzard shad (foul-hooked), and one white perch. Saw lots of stripers (maybe up to 22 inches) and a huge catfish caught, all on bait, although some people got a few little stripers on shad darts; and saw a few shad caught, some of which apparently were Americans. Certainly the latest I've ever caught hickories there. I tried the fast water with nothing to show for it except a white perch; founhd the hickories in slower water, including the slack water between the dock and the first rocky point. Might be the fat lady's song for my season there.

I was at Chain Bridge for a couple hours yesterday morning trying for shad without success. I didn't see anyone else catch shad either. However, just about everything else was caught.

I watched one person on the VA side fishing a sabiki rig pulling in herring 6 to 8 at a time. Another person was just downstream from me with about 20 lbs of catfish on a stringer. While trying for shad I caught crappie, a 14" largemouth bass and lots of white perch to 10" and striped bass to 13".

Interesting! I don't seem to catch other stuff very often when I fish for shad.
