Surf Fly Fishing Question

What is there to target with the fly rod surf fishing OC in August ..... anyone have recommendations of flies (size, color, make)?

Not sure about OC, but I grew up on LBI and we'd fish the jettys for blues and sea bass with the occasional flounder. We weren't throwing flies, rather metal and bucktails but I'd imagine something with flash that could hold up (epoxy)
