Default Upper Piankatank River / Thousand Trails Campground

I'll be heading down to camp @ TT campground in a couple weeks with the family. I'm planning on sneaking away from the family for some fishing/crabbing. It will be my 1rst time fishing this area so any advise would be much appreciated. Any reccomendations on a bait shop? I'LL also be looking to buy a new crab pot. After the power lines a saltwater liscense is required? I will not venture too far from the campground since I'll be fishing from a kayak! Thx

Don't know which way you're coming from. If from Richmond, there is a tackle shop just b4 West Point in Eltham on the right, the first business on the right after the long strip' Surf and Turf it's called, nice people. Both convience after you get through West Point sell bait and some tackle. If you come through Saluda there is a bait/tackle shop on the left about mile or so south, a little blue building. There is nothing between Glenns and TT.

Thanks Semper Fidelis I'll be going thru Saludas. KEEPERS Bait & Tackle? Anyone out there know if fluke/croaker/ striped bass/Crabs would be that far upriver by the powerlines? Or is it more of a freshwater game? I'll be down the end of June.USMC 1990-1994 Semper Fi

Croaker, stripers and crabs yes. Have not seen many freshwater fish other than catfish, gar and carp in that area. I haven't fished the piankatank yet this year sink can't give you any recent reports. Good luck

Semper Fi backatcha, was at 8th & I last night for the first time, man that was awesome, the precision with which everything is done is amazing. Didn't realize it was such a sound and light thing.

Yeah that place is Keepers, never seen so many cats in one place in my life. He must really love em. Haven't there this year but picked up a lot of croaker and spot last year, reports last year indicated that there are specks in the mix also.
