Default 6/8 - Spencer canyon yft

Fished again, but this time jumped on Jim's 33 Albie "DA CHIEF" that docks at IRM with me. Had Jim's friend Paul and my regular crew Dave making the trip out to the Spencer. Got lines in at 7:30 starting on the cold side and started toward the break, but was interrupted with a nice coverup and we were holding 8 fish on our 10 rod spread. With only 3 in the cockpit, we managed to put 4 on ice with one break-off, one pulled hook and two that dropped off waiting for a cranker to reel them in. Got spread out and next wham was a 4 banger, which was a bit more manageable and put all 4 in the box. We then picked up a single that had us thinking we had a small eyeball on, this fish just wanted no parts of being close to the surface of the water and made at least 6 runs of a 100 yards or better against 17# of drag (I set the drags on Jim's reels the night before), but Paul ended up being more stubborn than the fish and Dave sunk steel to our surprise a 64# yft. No sooner did we get the spread out when we got yet another 4 banger, which we stuck the first 3 and release the last one. Just like that and we are done and we fished the entire time in about a 1/2 mile circle. Tuna were spitting up 6-8" squids and meat/witches was the hot ticket. All our fish were caught on the 100 fathom line of the spencer in 67-68 degree water.

You need to change the name of your boat to "Graveyard", cause you are death on those tuna's.
That 64#'er is a slob of a YF.

Another great trip. You will be eating good all year with just 2 trips. We boxed 13 YFT on the Norfolk yesterday.

Thanks Mike, Terp told me you whacked good down south. Unbelievable amount of tuna that has been stretched form OI to the north, I've fished out of IRI 5x starting May 5th and have only had one slow day. Looking to be a season for the books.

Awesome We are starting to sweat it down here but seems like there are still lots of fish in the area. The size & quanity this season for us all have been amazing. All of our fish yesterday big.
I just got back last night and I'm already planning the next adventure.

Only the truly ate up understand the maddness.

    Bill.
