    Default Oi 8th & 9th

    It's a billfish vacation.
Released a white last Sunday on the 500.

Fished the 8th and started at the 450 over in the deep looking for some grass and found none.Hooked and released ~ 200# blue on the 450 in 1000 fathoms.Ran down to the 350 on a break and ended up with 17 dolphin.Mixture of gaffers and slingers.

Sat. the 9th started on the 350 in scattered grass.Saw some birds working offshore and trolled over and caught two blackfin and two bonita.Went back to the grass line that started shaping up right nice. Not many fish on it.Caught only seven gaffers and at 1230 caught a 25# gaffer on the 350 in 100 fathoms. Then hooked what I thought was a huge dolphin because it was burning line off my TLD25.Seconds later a nice ~300# blue is tailwalking across the water.Chased him for 40 minutes with at least a half dozen good jumps.Got hold of the leader the second time and leaded broke.I have 30# line and a 60# leader.Bummer was no camera.

So far vacation released 1 white,2 blues.
Kept 30 dolphin, two blackfin ,two bonita and flounder fished the inlet one day catching 15-20 flounder with only 4 keepers.

Next week looking nice to get out again I hope.Resting up today.

Jeff, Sounds like I was a little north of you on Sat fished between the 450-350s most of the day with much of it spent deep looking for something with a bill. Stopped in on a great grass line on the way out 25 fthm or so couldn't believe there was no action on it? Picked up one decent gaffer late in the morning when we came back in on a line down near the 350ish. Again big line few boats and even fewer fish? Picked up and ran toward OI and stopped on a nice rip picked up several more gaffers lost one heck of what I think was a big gaffer (rod doubled over,HARD strike, big splash!) never saw the fish, gone in first 20 seconds. Big difference 24 hours make. Friday same area mostly 450ish with none stop gaffers with a few slingers thrown in. We didn't even slow up for the bailers. One of those days where there no break in the action for several hours. By noon the box was full, we figured our limit was close and no one really cared to see another gaffer. Heck, its been a lone time since I threw back slingers, and played with gaffers til they came off, one heck of a day for sure. Never heard you on Sat enjoyed talking with you Friday. Stay safe and have a great rest of the week. Congrads on the Blues!!!

Friday 29 fish half gaffers half slingers a couple of bailers jumped in for the ride. (we knew we were close to a 3 person limit. While playing around with the last gaffer one of the guys kept saying "thats probably number 30 right there.") Damn if it wasn't!!
Saturday 2 gaffers 3 slingers 2 pull offs.
