CAPE CHARLES

The Coast Guard and a group of good Samaritans rescued 10 people from a 24-foot boat that capsized today near Cape Charles, according to a news release from the Coast Guard.

The boat capsized before 7:15 p.m., according to the release. One of the good Samaritans called the Coast Guard Sector Hampton Roads, and a crew was sent in a 41-foot boat from Coast Guard Station Cape Charles.

Ten people were on board; they were not wearing life jackets, according to the news release. The Coast Guard took five on board, as did the good Samaritans.

No one was injured, according to the news release. A fishing vessel towed the capsized boat to Cape Charles Harbor.

10 people on a 24' boat? Thats way to many! I thought 7 was the max and I know it depends on the kind of boat used.

I've seen twice that many on a Carolina Skiff that size.

24 ft DLX is rated for 18 people...of course the sea conditions are the most important factor in this case.

just because somthing is rated for a certain number dosent make it a good idea

According to the news release i read they were all wearing life jackets. Im sure the capt was inexperienced and was going way to fast.

I'm not going to make any assumptions. A lot can go wrong outside of poor judgment or operator error. Lines get caught in props, motors break down, a large wake could catch you the wrong way. Anyone who has spent enough time out there has had some close calls.

I was the good samaritan who pulled the 5 woman out of the water in my opinion there were too many people in the tower that made it roll.

I would have rescued the women first too.
