Glad you had a good time Tim. The perching has been great lately. There have been a few small puppy drum mixed in too.
Started off the day at Jacksons Landing pier (upper Pax). Put a bloodworm on, and started catching dink Rockfish (Species #1) about 10-12 inches. Caught 3 or 4 and then tried a different area. Caught a few small White Perch (#2) and a Catfish (#3). Fished for about an hour or so. Nice to have some early morning pullage, although nothing to write home about.
Met up with my fishing buddy Rick about 9 AM and and we took his boat to Solomons. The goal was to jig up some croaker, and then try for some White Perch. We tried a number of locations, but the fish had moved from where they were last week. Might have something to do with all of the Skates that were splashing around. Have never done well when Skates were present.
We did catch a few real nice Croaker (#4), and also 15-20 of the 4-5 inch variety.
Add a few small Toad-fish to make it (#5), and two 14 inch Bluefish (#6).
Caught a 15 inch Flounder (#7) near Cedar Point on one of Ricks stand up jigs trimmed with a white Zoom split tail grub and a squid ring. That combination was deadly on big Croaker last week as Rick reported here on TF.
Rick hooked into a Skate which was a serious Rod bender, so that makes 8 species between the 2 of us. Pretty cool.
Then we decided to try for the best eating fish in the whole Bay. Yes that would be Mr. White Perch. We fished a few different shoreline areas and also hit a few places with structure. Shad darts were the ticket today. We caught over 100 perch total, and put 38 nice ones in the cooler.
Thanks Rick for putting me onto those slabs!
I've been looking forward to a fried Perch sammich, so let the feesh fry begin!

Hey Tim, Sounds like a good time except for the ray.Kevin and I would love to get into some 10-13" perch. There is a big perch catching seminar at the MSSA we went to the last time tomorrow. Enjoy that sammich!............Gary
Learn to catch big White Perch - Monday March 18 th
White Perch are very good eating and catching them often is fairly easy. Catching ones big enough to eat - not so easy.
It seems 6 to 8 inchers are everywhere but the larger ones over 10 or 11 inches often require special tactics to catch.
Getting the true monsters at 12 to 13 inches is worth bragging about.
Monday evening at 7:30 pm - Rick , maker of Fish Off gloves - will explain how to target the larger White Perch. The tactics will work where ever Perch are found. Putting 10 or so keeper Perch in the cooler makes for a great dinner.

Every rose has it's thorns.
A couple of pics from Friday's trip. Tim put on a show jerkin perch and pulled up this short flounder on the jig, I thought it was a HH for Tim on the jig but they did not show. Wind was howling out of the NE but inside the river we had a blast with the perch that we turned into a fine fish fry last night. Will try and give out some good tips on perchin tonight at the MSSA meeting. Rick

If you don't go, you won't know and you gotta have bait in the water!
I have terminal Crabiteis and there is no hope.

Man...... I need a new lamp shade for that big head of mine, lol.
Here's a pic of Rick with a fat perch. He was jerking them up one right after another.
Seriously folks - if you want to know how to catch monster perch - go see Rick's presentation tonight. He's got them dialed in for sure.
(Copied from Skip's post) "Location is American Legion hall # 175 on Manhatten Beach Rd in Severna Park. This is a FREE seminarand open to public. Doors open at 7:00 pm. Plenty of free parking."

P.S. If you don't already have a "Fish-off Glove", get one. Another reason for the glove (other than the obvious one of quickly handling a fish, not being stuck with a fin or getting slimed) is for cleaning fish. I put one on my left hand and fillet with my right. You'd be surprised how much easier the job is using the glove when you've got a bunch of fish to clean.

I plan to attend

Great work guys. I love catching lots of species in the same day. I spent three hours fishing within a 5-mile radius of Sandy Pt today and caught 5 species in 4 hours, which I thought was pretty decent. But eight in a day is spectacular.
