About 10 years ago I had a friend on my boat bottom fishing near Tollys Pt. He caught an 15"-18" black drum using bloodworm on a bottom rig. I had never seen one before. I have not caught one in the Chesapeake since then. Here is a photo from a trip in the Everglades showing what black drum look like when they are smaller.

Cool catch! I saw on the dnr fishing report that someone caught a small one at rocky point in back river a few weeks ago. I need to get back to fishing local...

Name:	Drum off Love Point Fathers Day 2012 (1).jpg

ID:	61745Had a few hours to myself for a little Father's Day break yesterday and decided to get a little jigging in. All small rockfish, but held out hope of lucking into something a little bigger, and I did....but it wasn't what I expected. I've caught a fair number of drum from Poplar south, but never expected to run into any as far north as I was. Caught this on a 6' jigging rod, using a 1 oz. stingsilver, about 1 mile+ north of Love Point. Ran out and up, just like a ray. I was never 100% sure what the heck I had until about 10 minutes into the fight. Not a bad Father's day gift? Measured around 52". Took a quick pic and back in she went. Just hoping she was able to recover.

Shawn I was jigging at the time. I was using a 6" bass assasin in 20ft of water. It was a great fight.

We get tons of black drum in the shallows like Mosquito lagoon the Indian River etc. All are caught on jigs fishing for Trout , Snook, and Reds.
Retired to Palm Beach Florida fishing offshore out of a 27 ft. custom Blackhawk CC twin 200 etecs. My heart is still in lower Dorchester county, miss my ersters and crabs, don't miss the skeeters.

I had no idea they would that far north.

This weekend, we went out with a Boy Scout troop on 2 charters, and one of the father's caught a 25 lb Black Drum on a bass rod with 10 # mono and a hook for croaker. The rest of the time it was croaker. Everyone figured in was a ray, until pretty far into the fight. He did a good job to land it.

It was caught near Terrapin Sands between Wenona and Crisfield in 40 ft of water on peeler.
