I attended the last two VMRC Finfish Advisory Committee meetings at which time recreational divers were requesting they be allowed to spear rockfish (during recreational season). I was one of two , without connections to the sport who spoke in favor of allowing spearing of rockfish. This item will be presented to the next full meeting of the VMRC Commissioners for some action. The proposal was made by some fellows that represented a dive/spearfish organization. I head-up an organization of recreational fishing clubs in Virginia. I did not get a chance to speak to the four or five sport/spearfishermen who were at the meeting supporting the proposal. But would like to get names of individuals and names of organizations they represented. Their organizations may want to become affiliated with my group: The Virginia Council of Angling Clubs.
The VA Council o f Angling Clubs is a loose confederation (without any membership fees) that ties all the angling Clubs in VA together through electronic announcements to Club officers and Newsletter publishers. VCAC takes no formal positions on fishing issues, however that is left up to each individual Club in VA to participate once the news is out to their officers.
If I get no response here, I can always talk to folks at VMRC as these guys have been pretty actively pursuing this position.

I'll second the MALFC down in VA Beach. A great outfit and some good friends. Also +1 on Spearboard forum. It's a very active community of us spearfishers! the South Atlantic section of the forum is VA coastal.
