    Default York Spit Cobia Trip

Me, my wife and 3 daughters made the ride down to Gloucester Point on Wednesday and made the run out to York Spit. Set out the chum bucket (menhaden ground by hand mixed with menhaden oil) set out a 4 rod spread-two rods with cut menhaden and two rods with live eels, and waited. Rods were screaming almost instantly, but unfortunately it was all sharks. After hooking close to 20 sharks and landing around 10 we decided to check the buoys. No luck with the site casting either. We did see a huge sea turtle, so the kids loved that. Very hot out there. We fished the incoming tide, going to shoot for the outgoing next trip. Not too familiar with the area yet, but I think it might be a little early. Any thoughts? Going to try it again Monday.

There are some around that area I bet, just not in the numbers that the sharks are. I hear that there are great number of cobes still in the ocean front from OI up to VB. Should fill in the lower bay around Juy 4.....I hope.

I was thinking the same thing. Reports around CBBT are starting to improve so they will hopefully start trickling up that way soon. Thank you for helping confirm my theories. Been a pretty slow start to this summers fishing. Croaker fishing has been moderate at best, I've only landed one keeper flounder and the spring time striper season was a bust.

Had the same bait out. One on around 11:00 a.m. 60#s and lost him in the anchor line. Rest of day hot and trash fish. Still to early for a good bite. Good luck on your next trip.

I caught a couple nice cobia out there earlier this month but had to go through 10+ sharks per cobia. We had out 4 lines with eels on fishfinder rigs. If you soak baits for long enough you'll eventually stick a cobia. Keep at it and good luck!

I've made the 1.5 hr boat run down from fleets bay a few times to fish york spit. Unfortunately, no cobia for me. I fished a chum bucket on the bottom, 4 boat rods with cut bunker, live croaker and live and cut fresh bluefish. Nothin but sharks and rays for me.
