    Default E-tec no oil light?

I have an '07 250 etec, was heading home this afternoon and the no-oil light came on, I shut it down, had over a 1/2 tank of oil in the reservoir. (low oil light never came on). Started up again, same thing occurred after 30 secs or so. Chcked the lines, and the ball, all seem fine. Failed again, called seatow, since all my boat buddies wouldnt answer their cells.:-) Tried one more time, while waiting for the tow, and Sure enough, no more warning lights, ran fine on the ride home.

Anyhow, does anyone know if that sensor is in the reservoir that is triggering the no-oil warning, or if it's from the engine not getting oil?

I was having same trouble this past weekend after mec had cleaned gunk out of my reserve tank and got pump working again...kept getting no oil and shut down or slow down...filled engin res a couple times...still heard no pump running...then the light came on...IN MY HEAD! I was assuming that mec had filled reserve tank...NOPE! Hard to see from top if it is full anyway...so filled it up and pump ran fine and filled engine resv and no more problems...sometimes its the little things...thankfully!

Yes a sensor for this is in the oil tank. If you have the software you should check for other oil failure codes, it could have been caused by some other failure. That light is much like the old oil warning lights on cars. The software is definitive.

And then there was too much oil! Yep, after getting reserve tank cleaned and filled and pump working...everything was fine...running and gunning and then stopped in creek just before coming in for the afternoon...got too close to shore and pulled engine up and backed off...cut engine and drifted a while...started back up and she was belching smoke...OMG...blown something??? Limpted back in after filling creek with smoke...sorry to the anchored boaters! Pulled cover and oil everywhere...damn...noticed reserve pump kept running...pulled elec connection to stop it! Got home...Cleaned up what I could and called it a weekend. Pulled out Yami book...searched problem on iboats and TF and Yami SIM...concluded that maybe pump was not quitting because flot wa stuck? Following weekend, pulled float in engine tank...cleaned screen and made sure it went back correctly with float working...level was about 2.3 full...reconnected reserve elec pump...turned on key and started up ok but smokey and oil pooled in bottom of cover...watched oil level climb in engine tanl and cut off at full line and held,,,pulled carb cover and oil poured out of bottom...got carb cleaner and sprayed in all carbs...Yami V6...started up and after clearing her throat, she ran rough but no smoke...changed plugs...all 6 fouled with oil and carbon...started up and ran smooth and clean...YES! Then cleaned out carb cover...put back on...making sure to get gaskets right and attach two hoses...finished cleanup...put cover back on and test ran...smooth as silk...no smoke...yes! Think the engine tank float may have not been installed correctly and was hanging up causing pump to continue to think tank was empty and overfilling...dumping in carb cover...getting sucked in and fouling everything out. No more running with engine up...or forgetting to turn off key when engine quits? Check to make sure engine tank is filling from time to time...also watch for smoke and listen for pump when engine is off? Again, its the little things that bite ya in the butt...learned another lesson...luckily the easier way!

BTW...saw many posts including reference to cable ties around pump screen...just figured out why...a tie around the top of the screen will keep it in place on sensor float cap and prevent it from getting out of place...one more "little thing" I plan to do tonight...
