    Default Chunking!

Went on my first overnighter of the year this past weekend. Was not the first time i have done this but the first time the Tuna showed up for me. When the reel went off at about 3 am after a short fight this was to our surprise what was on the hook.

After getting back to fishing Doug and i start seeing these Tuna feeding on our Butterfish chunks right beside the boat WOW what a site. Doug finally after about 20 min gets one to take his bait this fish was purdy dang smart after Dougs fish hit the deck all hands where on deck. We were only able to hook up with one more fish only to pull the hook at the gaff. Did find out one thing on this trip i would rather catch Tuna chunking than trolling they come right to the boat on the chunk and KICK your A$$ on the troll. At around 430am we got back on the troll looking for the Tuna. Around 7 am couple hundred yards in front of the boat the ocean started spitting Tuna 20 ft in the air all around us. For about 2 hours we watch Tuna sky out of the ocean chasing flying fish. At this point i thought holy crap it's going to be on but no love they did not want what we had to offer. We did manage to get one more Tuna in the boat. Here is a link to the rest of the story.

Great report and pictures Fletch. Now if we could find where the Choker got off to, maybe we could get him to have and outting at his place down on the Island and we all have tuna steakes.

Overnight chunking is the only way I'll fish offshore anymore. It's quiet, peacefull"til the bite is on" and you get 3 shots for the price of one.Eve trip,to figure out where they are,2,the twilight/night /twilight morn.,then 3rd., the morning troll if you haven't had enough. The biggest tuna caught on my boat , A 200 #Bigeye was on an overnighter in june. Then there's the squid, whales, and surface frenzies like you had.
Why sleep ashore when you could be there already?
